The Dying Eagle is an infected representation of the Flying Eagle cent that circulated in the late 1850’s. The Flying Eagle, produced by the U.S. Mint, featured a graceful bald eagle soaring to the left of the design. After the apocalypse caught hold, though, flying turned into dying as the eagle now flutters as its body deteriorates.
